Gamini Perera
Called to the Bar in 1993, Gamini Perera brings more than three decades of experience in Sri Lankan legal practice. His career combines advocacy, legal education and the mentorship of younger practitioners.
His professional experience extends beyond Sri Lanka. The original Lex advisor profile records his registration as a Foreign Lawyer in England and Wales, membership of the American Bar Association, and service as recommended counsel to the United States Embassy in Colombo and the British High Commission. It also records his representation of Sri Lanka at the World Justice Forum since 2012.
Mr. Perera has personally mentored over fifty junior lawyers, helping them make the transition from Law College to courtroom practice. This experience gives him a practical understanding of the research challenges faced by new practitioners, as well as the demands placed on experienced counsel.
His guidance helps inform the sources Lex includes, the way legal material is organised and the distinctions made between binding and persuasive authority. He brings a practitioner’s perspective to the questions used to review the platform: whether a source is relevant, whether its context is clear and whether it helps a lawyer pursue a research question with greater precision.
From Warakapola and Ananda College to practice before Sri Lanka’s courts, his work reflects a commitment to legal learning and service to the profession. His contribution to Lex carries that commitment into the development of tools for the next generation of practitioners.
